Curcumin is one of the active components found in turmeric with recognised beneficial effects on the skin and in treating skin lesions. 

A little background information

Turmeric is bright yellow-orange and has a distinctly earthy flavour and mustard-like smell. It is used in curries, for dyeing and to colour mustard condiments. 

Its role in the body

Curcumin acts in several different ways to facilitate the skin healing process:

  • it has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties
  • it facilitate the healing process.
  • it regulates immune reactions, especially in atopic and allergic states.
  • it has an antibacterial action.

Natural sources

Turmeric  is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plant of the ginger family. It is native to tropical South East Asia.
