Aloe vera

Aloe vera has several important properties that combine to have a very positive effect on the skin. It activates the synthesis of collagen, which is a very useful healing promoter when used locally on burns. Aloe vera also has an anti-inflammatory action, stimulating immune function by preventing local infections and fighting against cell oxidation .

A little background information

The therapeutic virtues of aloe vera were utilised by the ancient Egyptians to treat burns, infections and skin parasites 1500 BC. In Latin, aloe means plant, while vera means true.

Its role in the body

Aloe vera exercises its healing properties in localised application or by oral administration. These properties are probably due to a synergetic effect of specific polysaccharides – like acemannan – and high concentrations of amino acids, vitamins E and C, zinc and essential fatty acids.

Natural sources

Aloe vera is an extract of plants of the Aloe species (Liliacea), which are native to Africa and Mexico. The fleshy leaves provide the most effective aloe vera extracts.
