Slightly arched back, medium length, with slight dip behind the withers, broad, strong loins, sloping croup.
Red to yellow with black saddle or mantle and white bracken markings.
Broad, medium length, close to the head, bluntly rounded at the tip.
Set relatively high and very strong, in line with the back.
Coarse and very close over the entire body, including the underside.
This very old German breed is said to be the offspring of crossbreeding between medium-sized scenthounds and Dachshund types. Regarded as a smaller version of Deutsche Brackes, Westphalian Dachsbrackes got their own standard in 1910. They correspond to the larger dog in all essential points, but give the impression of being more compact and more powerful.Westphalian Dachsbrackes are strongly built hunting dogs of moderate length and noble head that carry their tail upward in the form of a saber or drooping with a light curve at the tip. Their face bears a loyal, friendly, serious and attentive expression.
