These active, agile and lively scenthounds are industrious hunters with a sonorous voice that work very well in a pack. They are affectionate and cheerful companions that need to play energetically.
Viewed from the front, the skull is slightly domed and not too broad, viewed from above, the back of the skull is pointed.
Elongated, very firm back, short, well coupled, sometimes arched loins, slightly oblique croup, roomy chest.
Completely mottled (black and white), with slate blue effect. Black markings of varying size possible.
Fine, tucked in, ending in a point and extending past the tip of the nose.
Set strongly, saber-shaped.
Short, semi-thick, well furnished.
New life was breathed into the breed at the end of the 19th century by huntsmen in the west of France. Preserving its characteristics as a dog from the south of the country is nevertheless regarded as an important goal. They are fairly substantially built, but not too heavy.
