Despite a look of nobility and haughtiness, Sloughis are very fond of their handlers and companions, who they will defend if need be. Hunters by instinct, capable of sustained effort, these North African dogs also enjoy all the creature comforts.
Viewed from the side, elongated, elegant, fine but rather large. Viewed from above, shaped like a very long wedge.
Gently, harmoniously curving topline, prominent hip bones level with or slightly higher than the withers.
From light sand to red sand (fawn), including all intermediate shades, with or without black mask, with or without black mantle, with or without black brindling, with or without black overlay.
Set high, falling, close to the head, not too big, triangular, lightly rounded at the tips.
Thin, lean, extending from the croup, carried below the topline.
Very short, dense, fine.
Sloughis have existed for centuries in the Maghreb and today most of them are found in Morocco, which holds the standard. These smooth-coated sighthounds are very racy, elegant dogs, not only in terms of demeanor, but also because of their lean musculature and fine tissues.
